Generous... Give as you have been given to.. (Luke 6:38)
God has given us much (James 1:5). As a nation and as a people he has been, and is generous towards us. The Israelites suffered times of persecution and oppression, yet they are God's people and He has promised blessing and they are blessed! (Genesis 12 1-3) The promises are fulfilled ~
God often fulfils His purposes through the very people He created... in the Old Testament the tithe system ensured the first-fruits of the harvest were given to the LORD, and this measure is often encouraged today as a starting point for the people of God to give (1 Corinthians 16:2). It is not just finances that we are required to share. Time, wisdom, encouragement, skills can all be used to bless and contribute to the life of the community.. (1 Corinthians 12-14, Galatiams 5 22-23)
We are instructed particularly to help the poor, hungry, those without clothes or shelter, lonely, sick and persecuted..(James 1:27, James 2: 14-26)
