Secure...Hebrews 6:19
Through all the changing scenes of life, in trouble and in joy, the praises of my God shall still my heart and tongue employ.
O magnify the Lord with me, with me exalt His Name; when in distress to Him I called, He to my rescue came.
The hosts of God encamp around the dwellings of the just; deliverance He affords to all who on His succour trust...
For God preserves the souls of those who on His truth depend; to them and their posterity His blessing shall descend.
(Tate & Brady 1696)
The poem/hymn describes the need to have a base; a firm foundation from which to live our lives. Matthew 7 24-7. The parable of the sower shows us the need to be receptive to God's word. Matthew 13 1-9. The parable of the talents tells us we need to respond to God - to follow Him and use the good He has given. Matthew 25 14-30. It is a Biblical/spiritual law that we will reap what we sow. Galatians 6:7 - we need to be careful, we need to realise that God will reward us/we will be denied according to our belief, attitude and behaviour.
God gave us Jesus to show us the way. Vulnerable to human error and mistake, open to abuse and ridicule yet faithful to the last and truly on our side. John 17.
Read the words of the song below and make them your prayer. Re/read the parables and determine to live according to the truth.
In Christ alone my hope is found,
He is my light, my strength, my song;
This cornerstone, this solid ground,
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm.
What heights of love, what depths of peace,
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease!
My Comfortor, my All in All,
Here in the love of Christ I stand.
In Christ alone! who took on flesh
Fulness of God in helpless babe.
This gift of love and righteousness
Scorned by the ones He came to save:
Till on that cross as Jesus died,
The wrath of God was satisfied -
For every sin on Him was laid;
Here in the death of Christ I live.
There in the ground his body lay
Light of the world by darkness slain:
Then busrting forth in glorious Day
Up from the grave He rose again!
And as He stands in victory
Sin's curse has lost it's grip on me,
For I am His, and He is mine -
Bought with the precious blood Christ
No guilt in life, no fear in death,
This is the power of Christ in me;
From life's first cry to final breath.
Jesus commands my destiny.
No power of hell, no scheme of man,
Can ever pluck me from His hand;
Till He returns or calls me Home,
Here in the power of Christ I'll stand.
