God ~ designed us on purpose, for a purpose; to relate to Himself and one another (Gen 1:26) God made us to be relational, to live, and work with Him. Each one of us contains God's Spirit (Zech 12:1) and each of us is capable of relating to Him as He intended.
God designed us with needs ~ food, water, shelter, love, & He intended that these should be met in Him and each other.
Because of the fall and as yet unredeemed humankind sometimes our needs or others go unmet; people go hungry, thirsty, without warmth and lack in love.
God intends that we first cry to Him for help:
"Cry out to God Most High, to God who vindicates me" Psalm 57
"Lord, save us! Ps 118:25
"Come quickly" Psalm 31:2
The Bible has many examples of God's provision:
*Elijah; fed by ravens & supplying widow's need 1Kings 17
*Rahab; unlikely place of shelter Joshua 2
*Jesus & disciples; feeding of five thousand from only a few fish and loaves Matthew 14 13-21
...God can and may provide miraculously....and we need to believe in Him when we ask (Matthew 21:22).... we may need to persist in prayer (Romans 12:12) and/or be willing to go without for a time (Matthew 16:24). We may be caused to consider "what is the difference between need and want?"
God also intends that we notice needs around us (Romans 12:13); that we share our plenty and that we too will be satisfied (Luke 6:38).
Often times people make poor choices and instead of crying to God they bury need, hurt, pain, boredom. Drinking, smoking, overeating...becoming involved in addictive patterns or relationship behaviours to 'fill the gap' / stop pain ....they 'exchange the truth of God for a lie and worship created beings' (Romans 1:25) ~ 'providing' their own 'solution' which may temporarily 'help' but will deny the truth of reality and God's healing and provision.
Take some time to think if /where, do you subsitute for God? Do you drink excessively, over-indulge, wrongfully use chemicals ?
What are you trying to cover / avoid ? what is the truth at the heart of it ? (Matthew 5:32)
*Ask God to help you face pain of any unmet needs (Psalm 40) ...and ask for His direction in fulfillment of those that are genuine. Go to Him and expect Him to hear.. sometimes we don't have because we don't ask, we don't find because we don't seek.. (James)
*Is there someone God is prompting you to help ? To show kindness and friendship to ? Can you in a Godly way provide for another as God intends ..(Proverbs 3:27)
Gaining freedom from relational / behavioural cycles may be difficult and may take time (Gal 5:1)...but God can overcome if we are willing to follow His call. He commands us to be Holy as he is Holy, to walk in His light and truth & to depend upon His Word.
Make Jesus your priority ~ faith in Him and relationship with Him. The son of God suffered as no-one else ever will and so can understand (Hebrews 4 14-16) and help us overcome temptation and difficulty in our life as we join our lives with His :
"Come near to God and He will come near to you"
James 4:8
"For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Saviour, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good" Titus 2 11-14
Consider the points below:
* the greatest cause of leg amputations in the UK is smoking
* those who are overweight are more likely to suffer dementia
* schools want to ban pornography because it desensities children ..
